Personal Media Audit

*Disclaimer: I was not in class on Wednesday 1/17, so I didn’t get a partner. I audited myself.

Social Media Presence:

When I googled my name, the first thing that comes up is my Twitter profile. After that it’s just a bunch of hockey statistics from my previous seasons playing hockey for the University of Pittsburgh. There are then links to old stats and scouting reports from when I was younger. After that there is a Facebook profile link for “Benjamin Cirba”, but that is not me. That is someone in France apparently. The link right below that one is “Ben Cirba”, and that is the correct Facebook page.

My behavior on social media is very passive. I very rarely tweet, and if I do it’s not about anything of substance. Instead, it’ll just be something funny or a sports retweet. I have not posted on Facebook in forever. I very rarely like or comment on anything on Facebook either. I only have 19 posts on Instagram, and haven’t posted since September 22, 2017.

Perception of Myself on Social Media:

It’s hard to describe a good perception of myself on social media because obviously it will be biased. I think that people will look at my profiles and hopefully think that I’m funny. They will obviously know that I am a hockey player because there are a ton of pictures of that. I also feel like people will look at my social media and realize that I don’t use it seriously. It’s not that I post unprofessional or offensive things on social media, it’s that I’m not trying to market myself or make connections. I use social media for pure entertainment.

Enhancing My Social Media Strategy:

For starters, I feel like I should be posting more than I do. The more you post, the more you make impressions on people, and the easier it is to get followers, friends, or connections. This could potentially play a big role in my future employment options if I am able to network correctly. I also should add some more up to date pictures of myself because my current pictures are very outdated. As I get older and delve into the workplace, I am sure my reasons for using social media will become more professional.

My Brand Personality:

My brand personality personality hopes to be fun and witty. Cracking clever jokes catches people attention and is a really good way to gain positive attention. This personality would have to be more of a Twitter personality, because it’s hard to crack jokes on Facebook or Instagram unless you’re in the comments. On Twitter, you can quote tweet other people’s tweets and make respond with something funny. A great example of this is the Wendy’s Twitter account. The account teases people and catches the attention of everyone, but all while keeping it PG and in good fun. I would like my Twitter personality to reflect my real life personality as much as possible, and in being funny and witty, I would capture that.
